The I Ching can be thought of as an ancient computer that classifies the possible states of the universe, or your life, into 64 archetypical hexagrams. Hexagrams are composed of 6 binary lines that may be Ying or Yang, so like modern digital computers, it is based on a binary numbering system. By modifying any or some of its lines, a hexagram may mutate into another hexagram, that describes how a situation is changing into another. By tossing three coins six times, the person consulting the I Ching obtains a hexagram that may or may not change into a second hexagram. The resulting hexagram(s) reveal the crux of the matter the person is consulting the I Ching about.

How it works

The I Ching operates on the principle of synchronicity - meaning the hexagrams you cast are meaningfully connected to your question at that moment in time. The energy of your intention is captured the moment you sincerely ask your question and cast the coins. The resulting hexagram(s) are a snapshot of the dynamics surrounding your situation.

To consult the I Ching, you must first find three coins which only you will physically manipulate. You will then follow these steps:

1. Focus Your Question: Sit in a quiet space, free from distractions. Write your question down clearly on paper to focus your intention.

2. Cast the Coins: Using three coins, assign values (Heads=3, Tails=2). Toss the three coins six times, once for each line, starting from the bottom (line 1) to the top (line 6). For each of the three coins tossed, add the values to get a total number (6, 7, 8, or 9). Note this down in order for each of the six lines.

3. Submit this on a form: After purchase, you will receive a form. Enter your question text and the six numerical values you recorded for each of the six lines.

If you get any 6s or 9s (changing lines), your reading will involve a second hexagram, showing how the situation is evolving. Depending on that numerical value, the corresponding line will be:
